Alba Serra-Vilella is a Doctoral candidate in Translation and Intercultural Studies at Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona. She has a bachelor degree in Translation and Interpreting at UAB (2009), where she also passed her Master’s degree in Audiovisual Translation and another Master’s degree in Translation, Interpreting and Intercultural Studies, specialising in research on Contemporary East Asia. She obtained an FI-DGR scholarship for her PhD and a JASSO scholarship for a research stay at Kobe University, Japan (2014/09-2015/02). She also did a linguistic stay at Ryukoku University in Kyoto (2008-2009).

Her main research lines are translation from Japanese, Japanese literature reception and paratexts in translation. She also interested in teaching Japanese language. Her research focuses in the image of the Japanese Other that paratexts of books translated from Japanese in Spain provide, direct or indirectly. Among her publications: "Les traduccions literàries indirectes del japonès al català: visió retrospectiva i estat de la qüestió" cowritten with Jordi Mas López (2014) and the Master’s thesis: “La traducció de llibres japonesos a Espanya: Revisió bibliogràfica de textos i paratextos (1930-2005)” (2011).
