Xavier Ortells Nicolau

Xavier Ortells-Nicolau is PhD in Translation and Intercultural Studies at UAB and postdoctoral researcher at UOC (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya). Previously, he completed a Master in Regional Studies-East Asia at Weatherhead East Asian Institute, Columbia University, New York (2010). He completed linguistic stays at Peking University (2006-2007) and at Beijing Foreign Languages University (2005). Between 2012 and 2015 he was an FI-DGR scholarship holder for InterAsia research group.

His research focuses on Chinese contemporary and modern visual culture (cinema, photography, contemporary art) and the transnational circulation of China’s images in the early 20th century. Among his publications are: “Más allá del escombro.
