“Fluorine leaves nobody indifferent; it inflames emotions be that affections or aversions. As a substituent, it is rarely boring, always good for a surprise, but often completely unpredictable"

Prof. Adelina Vallribera received her PhD in Chemistry in 1993 from the UAB under the supervision of Prof. J. Marquet. After a postdoctoral stay at the Laboratoire de Chimie Organique de Synthese in Belgium in the group of Prof. L. Ghosez, she joined the group of Prof. M. Moreno-Mañas in the UAB. She became assistant professor in 1997 in the unit of Organic Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry of the UAB and Full Professor in 2017. Her research interests are focused on fluorous chemistry applied  to pharmaceuticals and materials, and on stereoselective methodological transformations.

Prof. Roser Pleixats received her PhD from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) in 1984, under the supervision of Prof. Marcial Moreno Mañas. After a postdoctoral stay at the Université des Sciences et Techniques du Languedoc (USTL) in Montpellier with Prof. R. J. P. Corriu and E. Colomer, she returned to UAB where she became Associate Professor in 1991 and Full Professor of Organic Chemistry in 2004. She has been assistant coordinator of the degree in Chemistry, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Sciences and coordinator of the PhD program in Materials Science. Her current research interests focus on metal nanoparticles and organosilica-based (nano)materials for catalysis and biomedical applications.

Carolina Gimbert Suriñach obtained her PhD from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) in 2008 under the supervision of Prof. A. Vallribera, working on the development of new sustainable organocatalytic processes. After one year as assistant professor at the same university, she moved to the University of New South Wales (UNSW) to undertake postdoctoral research in the field of bioinorganic chemistry with Prof. S. B. Colbran. In 2012 she started her second postdoctoral position at the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) in Prof. A. Llobet group. During this time, she developed hydrogen evolution and water oxidation (photo)catalytic systems. In 2015 she was promoted to scientific group coordinator in the same group and her research focused on implementing molecular catalysis into water splitting devices. After a short stay in the University of Barcelona (UB) as Serra Húnter professor in 2020, she started her current position as Ramón y Cajal fellow in the Chemistry Department of UAB early 2021. Her scientific interests are in the field of photocatalysis as well as organic and hybrid materials with application to artificial photosynthesis.

Dr. Albert Granados undertook his undergraduate studies at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). In 2014, he received his MSc in Electrochemistry, Science and Technology under the supervision of Prof. Iluminada Gallardo. Then, he joined the Vallribera group at UAB, where he received his Ph.D. with a special award in 2018. Subsequently, he pursued postdoctoral studies with Prof. Roser Pleixats and Prof. Adelina Vallribera at UAB. In 2021, he began another postdoctoral stint in the Molander group at University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) working on novel photoinduced organic transformations. He started his current position as Lecturer in Organic Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry of UAB early 2023. His research focuses on organofluorous chemistry, DEL technology, (photo)catalysis, and materials science.
