Raúl Gabás Pallás

Professor Emeritus, Department of Philosophy at the Universitat Autònoma of Barcelona. He studied at the universities of Rome (Gregorian), Munich, Berlin and Barcelona. He obtained his Promotion in Munich (1961) and a PhD in Barcelona. In Munich he worked as a fellow at the Juan March Foundation and in Berlin as fellow of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain. He has taught at the Universities of Salamanca, Burgos and Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), where he held the Chair of Metaphysics until his retirement. His publications cover topics Aesthetics, Critical theory (Frankfurt School), History of contemporary philosophy, Heidegger and Time. Alongside teaching, he has also developed a long and brilliant career as a translator, distinguished in Spain with the prestigious Angel Crespo Translation Prize (2011). Among his published works includes most notably Jürgen Habermas, Dominio técnico y comunidad lingüística (1980); Estética. El arte como fundamento de la sociedad (1984); Lo bello se enseña en Bellaterra (2004). Curso básico de filosofía estética (2008); La moralidad pública (2009) e Historia de la filosofía del siglo XX (Volumen III, editorial Herder, 2011). He has translated into spanish the biographies of Heidegger, Nietzsche and Schiller, written by Rüdiger Safranski; as well as Franco Volpi’s Encyclopedia of Philosophy; Hegel's Aesthetics, Heidegger’s Was heisst denken?, and Wilhelm Bauer’s History of public opinion.
