DOACSA tasks

OPINION DYNAMICS, COLLECTIVE ACTION AND ABRUPT SOCIAL CHANGES:
THE ROLE OF PREFERENCE FALSIFICATION AND SOCIAL NETWORKS” (DOACSA)

List of tasks

The following is a detailed description of each of the programmed tasks.

T1. This task will involve searching for and reading the literature on preference falsification and opinion dynamics. The PI responsible for this task is Jordi Tena.

T2. Construction of the simulation model. The principal investigator responsible for this task is Francisco Linares.

T3. Design, realization, and analysis of the outcomes of two experiments: one laboratory experiment and one online experiment. The purpose of these experiments is to use the results to empirically calibrate the assumptions of the subsequent simulation model. The principal investigator responsible for this task is Jordi Tena.

T4 and T5. Selection of opinion surveys to test the model. These tasks will be the responsibility of both PIs.

T6. Sensitivity analysis of the models using typical multivariate statistical tools. The principal investigator responsible for this task is Francisco Linares.

T7 and T8. Design and analysis of the appropriate shocks which the public opinion system is subjected to. These tasks will be the responsibility of both PIs.

T9 and T10. Selection of historical cases of abrupt changes in public opinion that have led to major processes of collective action and, depending on their success, to major social transformations. This task will be the responsibility of Jordi Tena.

T11 to T13. It is foreseeable that, over the course of the project, the social and political reality will offer cases of interest on which a prospective exercise could be carried out. In this case, it will be necessary to design an ad hoc procedure to gather information that will make it possible to evaluate the predictive effectiveness of the model. This task will be the responsibility of both PIs.
