Experimental modelling with analogue materials. The experimental work consist on the development of scale models through the use of analogue materials. These are mainly performed by the MIET group members at the Laboratory of Experimental Deformation (UAB), by using the experimental devide BCN-Stage, a mechanically controlled apparatus which allows deformation under variable degree of non-coaxiality (0<Wk<1) and at variable temperature. The BCN-stage machine is suitable for modelling ductile structures with analogue materials such as paraffin, plasticine or polymers (silicone putty, PDMS). Recently, chocolate has been successfully used as analogue of crystallizing partial melts. A high-resolution digital camera is used for photographic monitoring of the experimental models.
