Mireia Vargas-Urpi is a tenure-track professor at the Department of Translation and Language Sciences of the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF). She holds a PhD in Translation and Intercultural Studies by the Barcelona Autonomous University (UAB). She has a degree in Translation and Interpreting from the UAB, where she also completed a Master in Professional Chinese-Spanish Translation and Interpreting and an Official Master in Research on Contemporary East Asia. Her research interests include public service interpreting with the Chinese community, intercultural mediation, translation of welcome materials for the Chinese, intercultural communication with the Chinese and non-verbal communication in interactions with Chinese people. She has taught public service interpreting at degree level (UPF), at various MA programmes (UAB, UPF, Alcalá University, Pablo de Olavide University and Lleida University) and in various ad hoc training courses organised by public institutions.
