The main goal of the lab is to study the mechanisms that control meiotic progression in mouse and identify the key proteins involved in these processes.   

Nowadays several facts point to the existence of at least two control mechanisms that lead to programmed cell death during mammalian meiosis. One of them depending on the proper repair of  DSBs originated during meiosis and the other one independent of break formation (Di Giacomo et al 2005, Barchi et al. 2005).  

The research projects we are pursuing  try to better understand how these mechanisms work:

1.-Define the mechanism that controls the evolution of DSB repair during meiosis.

2.-Study the silencing of the asynapsed regions of the genome and how this mechanisms leads to cell death.
